Inspiration for tomorrow is this bright and breezy summer sky. I`m barely in the door, my hand is still cramped from today, and yet I`m tempted to turn around, head back to the studio and pick up a brush to start all over again!

On the cusp of turning my attention to @thisbeeisme abstracts for the next few months, I`ve been bowled over by an unexpected rush of ideas, so am riding the wave and working on a handful of new, large scale skies.

Seeing as how May is blooming all around me, I went back to this little painting and planted field of flowers. Gives it some added interest, a touch of spring and a subtle pathway towards the light. Always towards the light. 🌼

The central idea around which my `Down to Earth ` collection grew was to paint unadorned scenes that felt exactly that - down to earth. Grounded.

To pull inspiration from the landscape immediately around me, rather than disappear into my highly imagined, overly saturated imagination.

To stay present in the natural world. To paint what I know to be true. To capture skies I stood beneath and horizons I looked upon.
*
Using colours of the earth and brushstrokes of breezy, weathered skies, I was aiming to make my ordinary, everyday surroundings beautiful.

Shown here is one of the originals still available, one that captures a windblown moment along a favourite hiking trail nearby, and one that feels entirely down to earth. Mission accomplished 🖤

The crown jewel of my latest collection was, is, and always will be `Rockwood`. It was a gift from the universe and a profound reminder of why I love the creative process.

This was a painting for which there was no initial plan other than to paint over a giant mistake underneath. There was no thought out direction, no idea of colour or composition, no map to the stars. Completely connected to the flow of the moment and trusting intuitive decisions as I painted.

I painted over an "ok" painting for this beauty (see the video from a few weeks ago and watch my hesitation to do so ). Unbelievably glad I did. Big risk, big reward.

Not sure I have any excuse for how terrible I am at documenting, cataloging, remembering or keeping track of work. The part of my brain that stays organized with the paperwork went on holiday a couple decades ago (and must be having a grand ol` time and a good laugh knowing it has all been left to my highly incapable self) and has been AWOL ever since.

Well, this is one that seems to have fallen through the cracks of my memory. Probably from my `Lakelands` collection and think it found a home. What I do remember clearly is starting to explore water surface in a very abstract way and what I particularly like here, is that I can see I was having fun - I left the weird bits that don`t really make sense. And THAT makes me smile 🙂

I gravitate to nature wherever I am. I seek out patches of grass, the shade of trees, watch for the colour of flowers and listen for birds wherever I go. So grateful to have Gage Park (a beautiful, big urban green space ) as my regular twice-daily, dog-walk, smile-to-stangers, look at trees, small-talk-with-the-regulars, respite. I`m such an advocate for parks and public outdoor spaces that incorporate nature and allow everyone the experience of sitting under a tree watching the world go by. More trees, less concrete, much happy 🌳

For everyone wondering where the color has gone... It hasn`t gone anywhere. I purposely set it aside and limited my palette for the `Down to Earth` collection, but colour certainly hasn`t disappeared from my studio. In fact, I`m more excited about its endless possibilities and the ideas I have for it than ever before. It`s spring after all, and this girl`s thoughts turn to colour.🧡
